So the fuzzy glow of the brand new baby is starting to wear off. Or do I mean sleep deprivation? Either way, it's actually a good thing.
Life is settling into a routine. I don't have high expectations for Em to keep up with the routine he and I have settled into. For now it is nice, not too demanding, and I still have time to do stuff with the big boys and around the house. My nightmares of the house falling into extreme messiness and awful smells are disappearing. The boys are handling the change of having a high maintenance little person in the house.
I was scared of being "on my own" at night with such a little one. Andy was always home at least over night with the older two until they were 7 or 8 weeks old and mostly sleeping through the night. But, Em has taken pity on my and only gets up two or three times in the night then settles right back in (for the most part). The worst that has happened so far is I drifted off while feeding him. Thank goodness for the timer function on my phone going off to wake me back up.
This week will be a bit more of a test in how well we all adjust as the boys will be at school, I will be walking to drop them off and get them most days, and homework will have to be done each afternoon. Along with dinner prep and house cleaning. I am crossing my fingers that Em and I can grab a morning nap together and I can keep it all together.
So while the fuzzy glow has worn off...it is being replaced by shiny goodness of a happy baby, good big brothers, and a tentative hope that we can all keep on an even keel through the next few weeks and months.
